Sathya joined the Programme Division of UNFPA as Senior Programme Adviser, Population, Development and Data in Sept 2025. He serves as the substantive focal point for data and for population dynamics in the Programme Division’s Programme Liaison Branch. He is based in New York, reports to the New York-based Chief of the Programme Liaison Branch, and works in close coordination with the Nairobi-based Chief of the Population and Development Branch.
Sathya has over 25 years of technical, programmatic, and managerial experience from academia, NGOs, and the UN. Sathya is a medical doctor with a postgraduate degree in community medicine from Chennai, India, and a professional doctorate from the University of Bath, United Kingdom. He also has an executive master’s in business administration and has received additional diplomas in applied population research, applied statistics, and human resource management. He is board-certified in public health and is a certified lifestyle medicine physician. He is married and has two daughters.
